I never been in this Y how does it compare to the other locations?
A decade ago I had membership at the Dowd and seem pleased
The one Uptown is nice yet smaller scale.
I couldnt find list of all the amenities of BVY
but I remember scoping the outside
out as I was scouting out cell tower site on their property 2 years ago.
It seem modern and at the time it the Y was expanding.
Does the Y have specials like maybe after new years.
I will be using the one near me the most but the membership allows
me to use Y locations in Iredell, Mecklenburg, Lincoln.
Last..
Does anyone have expierence with Personal Trainers that the Y
provides? no biggy as I probably will not seek one til January.
Thanks
I'm a member and visit the Village location about once or twice a week. I used to live directly behind in the condo's and used it 6 days a week. Now I live in Blakeney and still drive over to the Village location to use the facility just because I like a few pieces of their equipment better than Morrison. Everyone is very nice and typically knows each other if your a regular. Staff is awesome and helpful with anything you need. The trainers that work at the Village also work over at the Morrison and are pretty good. I'm a fitness freak and have been exercising a long time so I sometimes watch what they are doing. They spend a good amount of time analyzing each member that signs up for training and working with you on your comfort level. The classes are VERY good at both locations. My fiance does a ton of Yoga and pilates and she says the Y's programs are much better than some of the expensive specialty places.
The Ballantyne Village location is my fave bc it is 18 and up! It doesn't get as packed as the others seem to get even though it's smaller. It's class schedule is very limited compared to the other locations, but offer more pilates and yoga than any other if that's something your are interested in. They usually have specials after new years. You can take a tour any time to check out the facility and it's amenities. I go to all the S. Charlotte locations for classes, not so much the equiptment since my community has a gym, and I have been happy with every location. I just wish I didn't have to drive as far to get to the classes I enjoy most!
Not to take the thread off track, but I have been wondering about how members at the Y might see Urban Fitness as far as competition. I wondered if it would take a lot of members away from the Y.
And Sunny - thought I would mention Urban Fitness since it is also in Ballantyne and I have heard it was specifically put there to cater to folks who want a no kids environment and are interested in personal trainers, too.
Someone put my name in over at Urban and boy did the phone start ringing, lol. I finally told the guy to quit calling me everyday. They kept pitching the "no kids" thing to me and how their membership was so much better, blah blah blah. Kids are never an issue at any Y I've been too. The Y membership is a much better value if you do have kids on top of that, especially if they play any sport on a Y team. Also if you utilize classes like YOga, Pilates, Sculpt, Athletic Conditioning, Crossfit, Zumba, Rumba, what am I forgetting lol! Those classes are free at the Y and pretty darn good too.
Plus for me personally I just feel that my money goes somewhere at the Y.
Urban looks like a good option although the floorplan does look pretty packed in. Urban has child care facilities but they charge for them. Again, it's free at the Y.
See I need more than just lifting weights is why I am looking into the Y.
After that dramatic year last year I first need to rehabilitate and I probably will not use
the Charlotte Y until January
as even as a passenger traffic for some reasons cause me to go in panic attacks.
My goal is to start with swimming & step tread mill bikes etc. I need heal the muscles first
This is advantage the Y has.
Ok Im just a country boy but is Pilate something you eat and is it good with ranch dressing?
Im kidding but what does it do and would you guys suggest it something I look into?

Pilates is a great workout for your core. I would recommend it (beginners classes first of course) for anyone of any fitness level and any age. The Ballantyne Village Y in particular has a lot of pilates classes. You can google pilates and find a wealth of info and you can check out some youtube videos to see what it looks like. The kind you would do at the Y would involve you and your mat, no machines. Some instructors incorporate light weights and resistance bands, balls, blocks, etc, but mostly it's just you and the mat. Anything you will need is provided by the gym, but I prefer to bring my own mat.
