thanks lovemountains and jp03. this is a new factory that is being setup and it is going to be just me and this friend i talked about who would be running the place. he is also new to the area, been there for a month now. He says that the area is bad but has not had any trouble there... yet...
Mt.Holly seems to be west of my place of work and only 10 miles. Any idea about school in that area. I will check it out in July when I am planning to fly down there one more time to check out the area.
Thanks for your post and your insight.
My wife and I are moving there in July..Schools through 8th grade are very very good. High school it slips.... we have a newborn.
I'm very familiar with this area that you make mention of. The area is mostly industrial and surrounded by fragile neighborhoods. Even though it seems like it's in a bad location (because of the looks), it's actually pretty decent during the day. At night may be a little different, but no area is totally free from crime. I live in the Mountain Island Lake area, which is located right off Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, which crosses hwy 16. This is a growing area with lots of potential. If you are looking to rent an apartment, I would say travel down the road to the North Lake Mall area to the Huntersville area. If you are looking to purchase a home, I would say looking into the Mountain Island Lake area.

Thanks a lot for the input. I feel much better now about taking up the offer.
I would recommend not stopping the car, except for traffic.
I have driven in the area in the past, it's rough but no worse then anywhere else in the world.
I drive through this area routinely, day and night. You will have no problems during the day for sure. I wouldn't hang out at the gas stations etc. in the area after dark but other than that, no problem. Good luck!

I make it a priority being a female to stop no where at night and haul butt until I reach my own bad neighborhood. Nothing a home security system and baseball bat wouldn't solve.

Reason: edit
I make it a priority being a female to stop no where at night and haul butt until I reach my own bad neighborhood. My bad neighborhood is bad, because the houses are old and so are the neighbors. No one is pumping money in to it, plus there's some 'elements' in the neighborhood too. Nothing a home security system and baseball bat wouldn't solve.
for housing, head up 16 a little further. Just off Mt. Holly-Huntersville road are quite a few nice, family oriented neighborhoods. I used to live in Claiborne. and Overlook is absolutely beautiful! Northwoods is a well established family neighborhood as well.
Or browse around Mountain Island Lake. And for a small-town feel, come on up to Lincoln County.
