I think pay to play is long overdue at CMS. CMS launches pay-to-play system for school sports - CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/08/18/1630052/cms-pay-to-play-system-begins.html - broken link)

One thing that bothers me, though, is that students with free or reduced lunch don't have to pay. Now CMS is asking for the community to step in and help with those costs. I'm all for helping people out, but honestly, when is it going to stop?

I wonder do you have to pay a fee for every sport your child participates in, this could be costly. I think pay should be equal across the board, everyone pays regardless of income.

One of the better moves that I have seen CMS make in a while. CMS should make the waivers so that anyone, regardless of income, can forgo the fee if they maintain an "A" average and perfect attendance.

Maybe not perfect attendance, because there are numerous valid reasons that kids might miss a day or two here and there, but I like the concept. I wonder if that could be carried over to other things that parents are required to pay for. Is there anything else? I don't have kids. If so that might entice parents to be more focused on their kids' schoolwork. Money usually talks.

I saw on the news that Rock Hill is charging $50 per sport, and $25 for standard academic fees. I think at least the sports fee is a good idea.

I think its a good idea. Now all we need is to random drug test the high school players to be sure they are worthy of wearing the uniforms.....yes sir.

It is per student per sport. Therefore for every sport they play they pay to participate.

I agree that it is a good idea. Thinking that the child him/herself should be required to pay it themselves with the paycheck that they receive from their job.

There will be so many waivers that the idea will be toothless.
