That is a lot of homicides! Is that in one year, a month, or what?

It was about the homicides so far this year, the year 2010. You can get it from the context; it's right beside a map labeled '2009 map of homicides'. The title, taken out of context, is ambiguous, but most people can figure out it means this year.

I enjoyed the title immensely, but can't rep bs again, yet. It reads like a tabloid headline. Tabloids run that sort of headline all of the time to grab attention on the news stands. A competent human copy editor should catch it in a regular newspaper. I guess that tells us where the paper's been cutting personnel.

The problem is that we shouldn't have to figure out a headline in a major newspaper. Just like many posts here and on every other forum I see, it seems like writing correctly is becoming a lost art. Newspaper headlines shouldn't be ambiguous, unless the goal is to sensationalize, as someone else suggested.

What?! Why would you think it was only for a week or a month? Nothing in the title should lead someone to believe that. I would not call it poorly written, they're just not dumbing it down for Americans. Why should it have to say Since January 1st 2010, for people to figure it out?
