Drove to Asheville yesterday and spent the night. What a surprise. This is probably the coolest city I have visited in the U.S. and I have visited many. The night life downtown was incredible. Must go. It is the excellent get away. When you come back, go by Chimney Rock.
I like both areas, for visiting of course. Asheville has alot of cool street people, the mime was my favorite. And chimney Rock was fantastic. Though, even if I didnt plan on using the elevator, it was a rough way up and down without it (it stopped working for the afternoon when i was there). Good source of exercise, and the waterfall was amazing!

Where did you go downtown for fun night life? We're going back in Oct and want to check out some new places.
Lacy, we started on the south side of Biltmore Ave. and walked up an started hitting the pubs. We just bar hopped and ate at Chai Pani. It was like a Indian tapas place. We had serious thoughts about eating at a Cuban restaurant but changed our mines. Plenty of good options. Enjoy your trip. I would just do the impromptu thing downtown.
The blue ridge parkway was excellent. Asheville reminded me of an area where they open the doors to a mental hospital and they were all wandering the streets. Not as good as I was expecting. Everything was run down and GETTO like? I just DONT get it?
