chuckles34, your comments and recommendations make much sense--thank you for them. We're in an odd situation in that DH is retiring from the military and beginning a job that will let him work out of the home, so we are not in a tremendous time crunch. That said, this will be five moves to six locations in the past 7 years alone, and he's been doing this for 24. I'm guessing he's not excited about the idea of renting for awhile, particularly with two very small children, even though we'd both agree with the wisdom behind the idea.

10-15 minutes is certainly not a biggie to us, but some of that depends on how annoying of a 10-15 minutes it is. Is it more like 20+ because of traffic delays, etc.?

I'm more concerned about how persistent, loud, and irritating the gunfire would be. Oddly, I'm used to it after growing up with a police chief dad who was also a firearms instructor and then living on some fighter bases. LOL

What it's coming down to is whether we do some big sacrifices on house to live in Baxter Village, which is a great fit for us location-wise and community-wise (at this point in our lives) or finally get a house we love after 'making do' so many, many times.

Did you look at that house for 239k? Just curious...

Frankly, it won't be too "annoying" going to Blakeney (i.e. Target, restaurants, retail, etc) if you expect 15-20min and come to grips with it. You even have decent back road access to the new Super Walmart in SC from there and could zip up 521 to get to the Mall.

chuckles has always been our commute cop and we appreciate it... There is nothing worse then expecting a "10min trip" that takes double or triple that WHEN YOU WANT or NEED to go. Expectations are important.

If you choose Quellin - for a quick run you have the new Cureton shopping center (Harris Teeter) literally 2 min away and I am NOT exaggerating. There's also a Lowe's right there and very convenient.

So it's got gunfire, noise, obnoxious smell and is located in the hinterlands where overpriced homes are dropping like flies on a hot day. Exactly why do you want to live there?

Wow, I thought I really liked it here in Waxhaw. Guess I was wrong.

All it needs is a rendering plant nearby.

chuckles, I usually don't agree with your concept of the boonies, but this time, I'm wondering if you're on to something. If they spend most of the time right there, no harm, no foul. On the other hand, the husband is going to need to go to the airport &, I thought, wanted some proximity to it. I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to go down to that area. Perhaps someone familiar with the area can give a reasonably accurate travel time.

Our realtor was helping us with that. It's a significant difference than, say Baxter Village, but it's still doable and infinitely better than what DH endures now. It doesn't look like he'll be doing a crazy amount of flying, so that's not the greatest priority versus getting a good home in a good neighborhood, etc.

One thing that I have to wonder: the shooting range is awfully close to Kensington Elementary School. Does the sound drive them absolutely up the wall?!?!?!?

The online map I was looking at showed it a bit west of the school, definitely closer to the school than the Quellin houses to the Harris Teeter!
