I believe the poster said they are renting and have not yet MOVED here... so this is a good time to read the local papers and get the LOCAL spin... no?

You are going to tell me that the mismanagement in Meck County is not a "fiasco" ? I have not been here that long and based on what I READ, it seems to be a problem. This is not an opinion, it it is what I read and what it is. My question to you is why did the voters vote down the bond issue in 2005? they might vote it down again and then what? I am renting in the Ballantyne area and I am zone for HawK Ridge Elem., which is one of the best elementary schools in the area. But 26 trailers? Lack of planning? Lack of Vision? Lack of Trust? I bet the reason the school is well rated is because the parents care. the teachers care. The principal cares. Yes, the area has money and that might be a reflection too. But you can't give credit to Meck County for that.

if you still own a home somewhere else and are simply renting here... you have not moved. why are you debating this, it is not even the issue?
who cares... really?

the last I read a few weeks ago Union County schools were cutting their budget and laying staff/services off - I don't know if that is still the case or if they figured out a way to solve that problem - does anyone know?

Voting down the school bonds in 2005 was the only way the average citizen had to send the clearest message they could to the school board and CMS. The message was this: We were sick to death of their irresponsible behavior in regards to bond money previously given to them by the voters, among many other things, like playing politics, being way too top heavy as an organization and not being truthful with info on discipline and test scores in some schools.

The voters who have been here long enough to understand the history of CMS want fiscal responsibility and have seen nothing but waste and mismanagement. Board members like Vilma Leake and Joe White desparately need to be replaced, but due to some gerrymandering we seem destined to be stuck with them. The hiring of Peter Gorman as superintendent has been the only bright spot in the recent history of CMS - but it has only been a year and trust must be earned over time. I believe he is on the right track and I am hopeful that positive changes can be made.

Maybe a better title would have been "The big fiasco in CMS..." but so what. There are two core groups (ok maybe over simplified) on these forums, the charlotte natives and the transplants. The natives have the "dont call my baby ugly" perspective and thats there right.

As for the transplants (like me), you need to realize that you really need to live here for awhile to form an opinion. If you base everything off what you see and hear from the various forms of media you will be way off track. And you will never know the truth until you have spent significant time here.

Now back to the point of this thread, IMO CMS is a huge fiasco. My first grader entered into a school that was just built for the 2006-2007 school year and now we are finding out she will spend 2nd grade in a mobile classroom (read trailer). A new school that can't handle one years growth?!? Anyone that doesn't realize that CMS has made serious mistakes to get to where they are is mistaken. I have lived in rapid growth areas before, and yes each area is different, but this school system has been mismanaged plain and simple. I think Gorman is going to improve things but he has an uphill battle.

As for charlotte, I definitely would not call it a fiasco... but I dont think thats what the OP meant either.

Wow, things are more like they are today than they've ever been before!!!
As far as CMS is concerned, the quiescent point, having been demonstrated by a series of static and dynamic scientific testing parameters, repudiates all previously mentioned statistics.....
