Go to the link below for a map of all NC wineries. You can take 77 north and hit the main NC wine region. You can go up 85 and visit Childress Winery. There are around 4 wineries in the Albemarle area. I would recommend Stony Mountain Winery for a great view of the Uwharrie National Forest. They have a deck that you can sit on and look out at a beautiful view. Uwharrie Vinyards has some good wines. I think my wife liked them the most out of the 4 winery's in the Albemarle area.

I visited Shelton Vineyards last year and I loved it! That was my first time visiting a winery and it was a very nice experience. They offer a tour of their factory and wine tasting afterwards. We went in October during the Harvest Festival (we just went that day, I had no idea they had anything special going on that day). It was free to get in..I think usually it's $5 per person...they also had local arts and crafts, music, grape stomping, antique tractors and a variety of other activities. I can't compare to others, but this place had beautiful landscaping and lots of trees and grass to just sit around and enjoy the day. The wines were excellent...my husband and I got a buzz just from sipping all the different wines. I believe the drive was around 90 minutes...but I live in SC so if you're in NC, I am sure it's closer.

Raffaldini Vineyards is highly recommended. Beautiful property, and their wines are consistently very good.

Ray-Len Vineyard is also good. About 45 mins. away from Cornelius. They have wine tastings, a tour of the facility, and special programs.

Owl's Eye is just north of Shelby. They give directions on the website, but I would ammend those direction this way. From 74 bypass (East Dixon) you will pass on the right, Cleveland Mall, Tractor Supply & Big Lots, Wal-Mart. Take a right on DeKalb (Walgreens is there & Lowes & Aldi are behind it.) Take a left on Marion & if you miss that, a left on Grover. Either street will intersect in a couple of blocks with Lafayette. Turn right on Lafayette & resume their directions. The intersection of Lafayette & Dixon is easy to miss.
