I had a terrible time trying to locate a truly knowledgable rheumatologist in the Charlotte area. I saw three different doctors over a period of 3 years and I was ready to give up. In addition to simply not being aware of the latest diagnostic tools and treatment options, each one's bedside manner left a lot to be desired.
Ultimately, I was referred to the DUKE Rheumatology Clinic. An acquaintaince who leads the LFA support group in Union County made the recommendation. I've gone twice since October 2009 and beginning with the first visit, the entire experience has been well worth the distance. I don't like "long" drives but I don't even mind going alone.
DUKE treats patients from all over the country, as you can imagine. Thus, the doctors are very responsive to phone calls and E-mails and they are equally as communicative with your local doctors. You also have the option of be able to view your lab work, vital statistics, doctor's notes, and other aspects of your chart, etc on a secured site.
Just something for your daughter to consider. Best of luck to you both.
