They have a 3 year shelf life.

If your on the Lincoln County side.
The Lincoln Health Department encourages people living within 10 miles of McGuire Nuclear Station to pick up free potassium iodide pills this Saturday.

I live about 5 miles from the Catawba Nuke Station, South Carolina side ... I guess we will just lose our thyroid glands! But as close to the station as we are it really won't matter, we will be gone anyway or glow in the dark.

South Carolina gave the pills out long ago at various locations to residents within the ten mile radius. They will get around to us eventually.

What are you talking about? I don't live in NC. I'm in SC near the Savannah River Site where they still do make bombs and study what to do with nuclear waste. What are these pills all about????

Thanks for the link! No one around here talks about what COULD happen.....it's oh it hasn't happened and never will. There are higher levels of cancer in the folks who work there. Coincidence? I'm leaning towards a big fat NO!

There isn't a live reactor here so people think they are all safe. Never mind the fact that they have tons of waste here. Lots ready to go to Nevada to stuff in the side of a mountain. Better hope that place never blows up!

The map on that link is very interesting!

I'm not a fearmonger! I've been told that by several people including people who work at the site. I said ti could be a coincidence, but I don't think it is. Are you a cancer expert on the Savannah River Site? If not, then zip it!

So because someone told you something that is as best anecdotal evidence that makes you and expert?

Then let me present my “evidence.” I have met many people who worked on the Manhattan Project back when they did not fully understand the risks. A lot of these guys are living into the 90s.

I have studied health physics and have read studies on cancers rates around nuclear power plants. That may not make be an expert but it does make me well informed. Cancer clusters do occur in rate higher around a nuclear power plant than they do anywhere else. Nuclear workers generally receive doses of radiation on an annual basis that is comparable or less than living in Denver as opposed to living in Charlotte (you receive more cosmic radiation at higher elevations).

BTW, Savanna River is not a nuclear power plant.
