My fiance works in Hickory and I work in uptown Charlotte. We are looking to buy our first home some where between Hickory and Charlotte as we are both settled in our jobs. Some of the places we considered were Statesville, Lincolton and Denver, but we are not really familiar with either...just looked at a map and saw that they were some what central to both areas.

Can anyone suggust some towns between the two places and/or maybe some good neighborhoods we should look into (or not steer clear of)? Thanks for the help.

South Gastonia. Look around Union Road, Hudson, Robinwood, New Hope etc.. Your fiance can go up 321 to Hickory & you can take 85. If you work in Uptown, get off 85 at exit 27, take a right to Wilkinson Blvd. Take a left onto Wilkinson, & you are practically there.

Southbound is right on. I would add east Gastonia. There are some nice neighborhoods around Redbud Road/New Hope Road. A Mile or two from I-85 Exit 22 and very conveneient to all the shopping areas.

I would knock Statesville off the List the commute to Charlotte & Hickory is rather thick. Lincolnton isnt that welcoming to people relocating from elsewhere and the smallness & quality of neighborhoods probably not meet your needs. Denver is unincorporated so expect no city services & police.

I would ditto the Gastonia recommendation! I lived there about 10 yrs ago and while it is more crowded now they have all the basics and easier drive to town. Plus hubby will be going the opposite of most traffic heading into Hickory. JUST be careful of speeding on 321

I used to work uptown and my favorite way to get there is Freedom Drive depending upon 85 N traffic. Otherwise Wilkinson if you don't mind all the stop lights when 85 isn't moving!

Check out Belmont or Gastonia - Statesville isn't really a good option and Lincolnton makes your commute much longer than hers. Best of luck!

I'd cross Statesville off your list too.

Just to clarify. . . You don't want to be north of Garrison from Union until, going east, you approach New Hope. On Union, it's primarily apartments from Garrison to Hudson, but nice apartments. South Gastonia & East Gastonia sort of meld together. Just check for one of these elementary schools. Bess, Robinson & New Hope. Make certain that the neighborhood feeds to Forestview HS.
