I recently relocated to the Charlotte, NC area (near Carowinds), and would like to network with fellow islanders....inquiring about Jamaican groups, restaurants, radio stations, clubs, church...any thoughts?

I see a lot of Jamaicans as patients. I have some good friends from there that I went to school with so I spent a fair amount of time in Kingston or Negril on vacations in my younger days.

There are a few restaurants around town that serve some Jamaican fare that you can google but I have not found one that serves the saltfish and acki with roasted breadfruit which I really enjoyed.

Good luck and welcome to Charlotte!

You can check out Reggae Central in Charlotte. That might be a good start. Maybe they can help point you in the right direction.
Of course not only Jamaicans listen to reggae, nor all reggae fans are Jamaican....

I was born in New York, reclocated to Charlotte, NC. My Mother is from Kingston, Jamaica. Of course being from New York, I never had much problems networking with Jamaicans. However I haven't come into contact with many or any since I moved to NC... Shout out to any fellow Jamaicans that reads this.

Not too many here, but I will attempt to list places that caters to Carribeans

twilightcaribbean

CharlotteReggae.com

Crystal on the Plaza (club) - I like going in the summer, just to lounge in the backyard and eat food, never hiting the dance floor.

Amos in SouthEnd (not a Carribean spot), but they host numerous Carribean artists, especially in the summer: AMOSSOUTHEND.COM - Charlotte, NC - 704-377-6874

Island Grocery - They sell great cooked food. Carry everything you are looking for to make a meal.

Mama's Kitchen - Located on Central, live music some nights (a little to Americanized for me).

Yeah, there's a Golden Krust in the Univeristy area.

Like everything, have an open mind and give each place at least two tries. Good luck!
