I've heard that uptown Charlotte is divided into 4 wards. Can anyone tell me about each one??? Also, someone had mentioned that a lot of things tend to close by 9pm -- is this only in Balantyne or is it all of Charlotte (and does the city stay open later on the weekends?!?!). Thanks I'm dying to know more about this city...!

No, things do not close by 9pm all over Charlotte.

First Ward: NE Uptown. Mainly Residential. Arena, museums, etc.
Second Ward: SE Uptown. Was largely African American neighborhood which was torn down to build the government district. Now home to apartments, gov't buildings, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be in this ward.
Third Ward: SW Uptown. Historic homes, apartments, office towers, the transportation center, and proposed baseball stadium are here.
Fourth Ward: SE Uptown. Most "historically intact" area. Mainly residential. Has traditionally been the most "popular" ward in which to live.
