Fire Ants in Crismark, Indian Trail?
Just read something about fire ants. We will be relocating soon, moving to Crismark in Indian trail. We were wondering if Fire ants are a problem so far for anyone. If so, how do we prevent any problems from EVER occurring LOL?

Fire ants are a problem in the South. You must be on the lookout for mounds and teach your children to do the same.
There are a lot of effective fire ant treatments that you just sprinkle on the mounds.

You'll never not have the problem.....unless you sprinkle the fire ant killer on your lawn everyday & you cover the WHOLE yard. It seems some years are worse than others for fire ants and even certain months are worse. Believe me, you will know an ant hill when you see it. Oh and they can also pop up in the cracks of the concrete on your drive or walkway.

We just moved into our house in Crismark on Friday, our yard, and the ones bordering us do not currently have fire ants. However, we moved from Fayetteville, NC and had them when we moved in, went to Home Depot, bought some mound treatment and they disappeared, only to pop up again elsewhere in the yard. Then I bought some "whole yard treatment", just rip open the bottom of the bag (at least on the kind I got), it turns into a shaker bag, I walked around the perimeter of the yard shaking the bag, then around the rest of the yard, like I was mowing the lawn. Only one mound since, through last week. (that was about 10 mos total, I don't know if they're active in the winter or not though).
I suppose you can contract with an exterminator and they would do it, but it was a cheap easy fix for us.

We have been using Over N Out for the past 4 years. It is gaurenteed to last for a year. It does work. We don't have fireants where we have put the Over N Out. Our kids run around the back yard with out shoes on or worries of getting in the ant hills.
But fire ants are everywhere, so just learn what they look like and be careful.

Welcome to the Neighborhood
I also live in Crismark. Been there since Jan. I haven't seen any fire ants. Just giant man eating rattle snakes. Just kidding.
Where are ya'll from?
I really like Crismark so far. The last few nights some people shooting off fireworks after 10 pm at nigh has ticked me off. I call the police and if I see who's doing I call the HOA. I want to keep it a nice, quite, family oreinted neighborhood.
All the people I have met there are real nice. I think I am the only one there from this area. I think Crismark is 90% transplants.

We're most recently from Fayetteville, NC, but only moved there last Aug from CT.
I've only met one neighbor, around the corner from me (we live on a new street, only one other house occupied so far!), and they're from NY if I remember correctly, and their kids that my daughter was playing with apparently were only visiting their Dad, they live with mom in VA .
I've got an 8 yr old daughter who is dying for some friends!! Anyone in Crismark got kids going into 3rd or 4th grade?

Most definately. Crismark is very large so there are a ton of kids. The little girl that lives beside me is 9-10. Try going to the pool or some of the kids things. Like they had an Easter Egg hunt at Easter. My lttle girl is 5. We have met several other kids at the Pool. I know the new area you are speaking of. It is brand new so until it fills up a little you may have to go to some of the other areas in the neighborhood.
My only wish, and if you would like, you can voice this to the HOA or the developer who is Mark Tyson, is that Crismark had a play ground or park area. I would love that.

Yes, a playground would be great! We loved the looks of Lake Park when we were looking, but there were no houses there available that met our needs. (at least none in our price range!). I liked all the common areas.
We've been to the pool, DD met a girl there the 2nd time she went, and got her phone number, my husband talked to the parents, so we'll call them when DD gets back home, she went to Grandma and Grandpa's house (Myrtle Beach) the day after we got here, to stay for a week. Sure helps me get things settled a bit!
