Ah, so the househunting is nearly (and freaking FINALLY) at an end. It looks nearly certain that we'll be in Baxter Village, and while I realize that preschools had their registrations late last winter, I was hoping for recommendations for terrific preschools nearby to visit and get on a waiting list.

I'm hoping to find:
1) Preschool, not a daycare
2) Philosophy of learning through play
3) Warm environment... Christian program is a welcome bonus

Thanks so much for your suggestions!

Sorry Amy, I don't have any suggestions for you, but I did want to say congrats on finding a place to call "home". I really like Baxter, hope it's a great place to live for you and your family

I don't know anything about it but Field of Dreams Nurture and Education Center (http://www.fieldofdreamscenter.com/index.htm - broken link) is in Baxter Village.

I don't know what you consider the difference between a preschool and a daycare, but Field of Dreams would be my recommendation. We had our oldest son at FOD from the day it opened and my youngest started there at 12 weeks old.

I couldn't have been happier with the program. From the owners (who are on-site much of the time) to the director and most of the teachers, they were outstanding.

There was a great mix of hands on learning and play and felt there was good structure that helped prepare my oldest for Kindergarten.

The teachers, for the most part, were excellent. We had a couple that we weren't crazy about and the turnover was at times a bit high, but nothing outside my expectations for a facility like that.

It's been two years since we moved from that area, but unless things have dramatically changed, I would recommend FOD without hesitation.

Thank you for these suggestions!

LovesMountains, are you in Baxter?? If you are, that's just one more reason I'm happy about it.

You are so sweet

I should have phrased that better, sorry no, I'm not in Baxter - I just really like the homes and layout of the neighborhood

You might have better luck posting this on the SC forum. You can try Grace Preschool (where my twins went). Other places would be Lakeshore and Lake Wylie Lutheran. Good luck!
