Yikes, the first time I have seen them in the backyard! I understand they can kill small dogs. Any advice. I already have Killingsworth. It is worth it to have them come out or to buy something from Lowes??? Thanks in advance.
kill small dogs? Really? Maybe if the dog falls asleep in the ant pile. Yes, they hurt and sting, but its ont a life or death issue unless an allergy is involved. Buy something from lowes and sprinkle the piles you see.

OK, go to a store that sells Amdro fire ant bait. I've seen it at Lowes, Home Depot, & Ingles. You don't have Ingles so substitute any supermarket with yard supplies & insecticides. Read carefully, as there is fire ant killer & fire ant bait. Get the bait. It's a no brainer & they administer it to themselves.

Completely agree - Amdro is the way to go, it will take care of the ant pile in no time

You're welcome. I just wanted to make certain what you meant. I have black ants & red ants here, but the one fire ant hill has black fire ants. However, there are red fire ants.
Hi Blue, the fire ant mounds have popped up with all the rain. I haven't seen any all summer then yesterday, BAM! Had to pull my Westie out of the way before he stepped in one across the street from me. I hav Hometeam Pest & they will come out, at no additional charge, between regularly scheduled treatments to take care of anything. Don't know if your pest company does the same. It's always good to have some Andro on hand like SB said. The mounds are pretty easy to find, just look for areas where it looks as though the red clay has been piled up.
Make no mistake, fire ants can hurt our pets just as badly as they can a human. Their bites are no picnic (no pun intended)!! If you are allergic to bee stings, you can get the same allergic reaction to a fire ant bite. One of my son's friends wound up in the ER because of them. Poor kid had to be revived & spent a day in the hospital because of it.

I'm getting ready to go out & spread a little more Amdro right now. I put some out, & noticed that it was all gone & waited a few days. Then I stood back & poured a little water from a watering can on the hill. A few came out, so I was going to put out some more Amdro, but the rains came.
I love that they take care of administering it themselves. No muss, no fuss, no mistakes.
