This is all very reminisnect of the disapperance of Kyron Horman in Portland, OR this summer. He went missing under unusual circumstances, and the step mother's behavior during press conferences was very telling. Not only did they later find out she tried to kill her husband (the father) via a hitman, but she is the number one -unofficial- suspect. His whereabouts or conditions are still unknown...

I remember this case. Sad that it falls off the radar of news when there are no updates.
Elisa Baker's suspected MySpace page has two playlists on it. The one on the left has as the first song "Killing in the Name”
by Rage Against the Machine. The one on the right is “Little Dead Girl” by Rob Zombie.
This isn't good!
I'm not positive that it's her page but it was updated the day before the girl disappeared and the photos seem to match.
I've sent details to news agencies and Hickory PD.
I lived about 4mi from where Kyron Horman went to school, so the case was very much of concern. I moved to Charlotte last week, and when enrolling my son in school, I inquired about the school's notification policy as this was a critical piece in Kyron's case. The office staff scoffed at the notion that the school would notify a parent if their child was absent, and neither admin had heard of the case (nor did his Kindergarten teacher). I am concerned that these nationally televised cases are not discussed with school staff. Had Kyron's father been notified of his abscence - he might not be missing today (though the stepmom probably already knew this was a loop hole in the school) and perhaps, if the school staff questioned Zahra's home life- there may have been a different outcome.

Another similarity between the two cases- Kyron's stepmom provided a review on Amazon about a murder book similair to their scenario. Ugh!!

Maybe. I thought the press said she just started homeschooling this year. If she's been missing as long as some expect then she might have been missing before school would have started.
My impression is she was truant, not homeschooled. To homeschool, you have to file a form with the state and follow other laws; the articles said the stepmom had "called the district" or something like that.
My coworkers are following this very closely--I live/work in Hickory. I think they said she lived near the Clark Tire which I am thinking is 21st NE because I thought they said 127N near my side of town.
She was supposedly homeschooled the last 2 yrs. They previously lived in the Sawmills/Granite Falls area in Caldwell County. SO if things had been reports and they moved counties she prob got lost in the shuffle by social services.
I can only imagine what her life has been like and I hate to say that she is prob much better off. HOW anyone can hurt a child or anyone for that matter is beyond me. I think they said her mom has been out of the picture since she was 6 mos. old. sad sad situation.
