i have to go to the courthouse downtown to get my background check and fingerprints for a summer job...where is the most convenient parking near the courthouse? i am NOT familiar at all with driving downtown and i have a phobia of sorts when it comes to driving myself somewhere i've never been (a learned fear i got from my mom, thanks mom). i know it's obvious to just drive until i see a garage or lot, but i get myself worked up over this stuff so i would rather have a spot in mind ahead of time lol. thanks in advance for suggestions.
The new court house has a parking deck I think the entrance is either on 4th street or on McDowell. There is also parking up on 4th street on the left side (it is a one way street heading west) up by the old court house next door that is meter parking if you know you will only take maybe an hour then meter park but give enough change to cover your time.
There is also parking across from the police department off Trade St.

Here's my suggestion for the easist way to park when going to the courthouse - if you are coming from south Charlotte. Take 4th Street all the way toward uptown. As soon as you go under the I277 overpass at 4th there is a red light. At that red light you can turn right into the new parking garage. The court house is just one block further up 4th, a very easy walk.

This is a new public garage that serves the courthouse, but it is not attached to it, it is one block away. Are you approaching uptown from the south, or another direction?

Be very careful when you park in the parking meter spots street level. They WILL tow you the second you run out of time or after the posted time that you much be gone. About five minutes before that time, dozens (literally) of tow trucks are circling and by 2 after, your car will be gone. It happened to me and I heard it was a huge racket and it will cost a bundle to get your car back.

This shouldn't be a problem in the parking garage!
yeah i am going to go for a garage...i have never used a meter before and i don't have a lot of change--they take change right? hah, i don't even know. i do have singles, 5's, and 10's for parking. i don't know how long i will be...i have to get a background check and then get fingerprints...which i hear is in a different building nearby...not sure. i don't care how long i take or how annoying of a process it is as long as i don't get lost and can find a place to park. i just wish i didn't stress about it! hopefully this will be a successful trip and i won't be so anxious when it comes to driving to new places...
