Can anyone recommend an online divorce service to draw up papers for an uncontested divorce? I can't afford the legal fees to hire a lawyer so I need to use one of these services. I want to make sure I find one that will get everything correct.

If you are in Mecklenburg County go to the court house to the self help center.... ask them for a
"divorce packet". File the paperwork your self, I believe the filing fee is $200.00. In NC, you can't contest divorce but there are others issues to work out as I am sure that you know. Just be sure before you go before the Judge that both parties are on the same page. Good luck !

My wife has admitted to committing adultery and all I'm finding is no-fault divorce stuff online. I would need a site that can show fault.

If you are wanting a cut and dry divorce, first of all in the State of NC
you must reside separately for 1 year. After that you can file for a divorce.
If there are no issues, alimony, child support, post separation support etc.....
then you can go to the self help center and get a package of paperwork and file with those. It is very simple to do.

I filed as of October 19, 2010. As of yet I've heard nothing and have received no letters or phone calls. Shouldn't this be done by now?

The courts are tremendously backlogged right now with foreclosures and bankruptcies. Those filings take precedence in North Carolina. I would wait until maybe the second/third week in January and call the Clerk and ask for a follow up. Be sure to have your file number, not just your name. They should tell you where it is in the process. But don't be surprised if it doesn't take a long time. The filings that I work with that should take 90 days in local court are taking 6-8 months minimum because of this backlog.

Just an fyi........don't EVER tick the Clerk off. You need him/her on your side, they hold a tremendous amount of pull and keep you in limbo for a long time.

I had to personally go to the courthouse today. There were three more documents that I had to fill out, copy, and then submit to the clerk. The case is now scheduled for this month.
