I live near Concord/Mallard Creek...

I have a Drivers license from OH -moved into Charlotte couple of months ago. Having heard horrible wait time stories on this forum, please advise on:

1. Which DMV has less wait time to take the written test? What are the chances that I will be asked for a driving test?

2. Can we make an appointment for the test?

3. Which DMV has less wait time to register the car?

Seems like they are not open on Saturdays.

Thanks in advance.

I moved in from VA 4 years ago and did not have to take a road test and I think the chances are very slim.

You can make an appt. I would call and check, but there could be a couple of months wait.

I went to the DMV on I85 off of Exit 58. I had to go in the summer since that's when my license expired and I had a really long wait due to the teens getting their licenses. You won't have to worry about that now as long as you go early.

The DMV's in NC are not open on Saturdays and if it's still the same way the DMV's and Car registering are two separate places.

Took my son last December (his birthday is the 19th), to get his after nine, and there was very little wait time. We went to the one on 29/N. Tryon, near CMC/University. You'll probably just have to take the test, get a book and study the sample test.

Any of the DMVs outside of Charlotte are apt to be much less crowded. Everyone needs to take the written test. You can only pay in cash or an in-state check that has the address you are registering on your license - no credit cards accepted.

Went to DMV on exit 58/concord. Took almost 1.5 hrs to complete the written and sign tests. Thanks to all...
