I was there last week visiting family who live in the Southpark area, and I found their neighbors and people at the mall and what not to come off as very arrogant. Me being from Los Angeles I'm used to materialism and arrogance but I didn't expect it there with it being a southern city, but it doesn't really resemble any other southern city I've been too, even Atlanta.

Yes.
It didn't use to be but now with all the transplants it is.
At least, according to recent threads, it is.

The area you visited is VERY materialistic. It's the "MONEY' section of town.

Charlotte is a city with fewer and fewer southeners in it.

Still, I have yet to see what you claim to have witnessed in Southpark.

YES. Extremely materialistic, and in most parts of town.

]speaking from a transplants point of view I think those who are native southerners tend to be far more arrogant and materialistic. there also seems to be a judgment from the southerners to if they are not dressed appropriately or driving the right car I would certainly call that materialistic.

I really don't think that materialism is the mindset of most of the people living here. There are a few who stand out & they are generally who are remembered on a visit to the mall or a restaurant. Southerners generally do not make ostentatious displays of wealth or crass materialism.

I am not sure it is fair to judge an entire city by a few neighbors and the people who you saw shopping at Southpark. There are materialistic people everywhere, in all cities, in all states.

But there are also some really nice, down to earth, good hearted people here and everywhere else.
