I sat out on my patio tonight and couldn't believe how loud the noises of unknown critters was. We have plenty of black crickets which I am sure are contributing to the sounds, but I think there has to be something else in my little section of the woods. It kind of sounds like birds squawking, and it is so loud that you can barely have a conversation out there. Anyone care to guess what might be back there besides crickets?

I was told by an oldtimer they are Katydid's. They are from the grasshopper family. I was aslo very curious because they are so loud! Now that I know it doesn't bother me much.

LOL but I have idea what you are talking about I tried to explain to my partner what you are talking about because the one I think you are talking about is almost sing song like it go up and down in it sounds and sometimes holds it note for a good bit then I tried to make the sound it makes and they told me not to try out for american Idol for bugs LOL.

I love camping out during these nice pleasant evenings but it can be so noisy at night how can soemone sleep lol.

I looked up the katydid and they do contribute to some of the night noise but I dont know if it one you are referring to. Click here to listen http://buzz.ifas.ufl.edu/141sl1.wav

You also probably hearing this cicadas click here to listen http://www.naturesongs.com/cicada3.wav

We rode out to our lot last night and the cicadas were holding a super-loud concert there. The crickets were not being shy, either. LOL
