I'd suggest Latta Plantation. There are plenty of trails that go near the lake and it's basically a walk in the woods.

I think Crowders would be too hilly if you're looking for something easy. Even the easy trails there can have steep sections.

thank you everyone, I'll be sure to check out all the links or google the other trails. Now if you all can wish us a perfect, no rain day on T-day so we can go hiking and deep fry the turkey, that would be great, lol

Have a good day.

Just an FYI, on the website for the Gateway Trail, if you hold your cursor over "About the trail" you can click on photo gallery to see some pictures.

If looking near NE Charlotte, I'd recommend the trails at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. Several trails, none too strenuous, and many have nice views of Mountain Island Lake.

A bit further, Kings Mountain Military Park has a nice little 2 mile paved trail that goes around the battlefield - very nice and interesting, not very hilly.

Crowders Mtn and Kings Pinnacle have terrific views but are strenuous hikes. A great compromise is to go to the new Ridgeline Trail, and which is easily accessed at the new Boulders Access point - about half as high as the top of Crowders, and pretty good views.

The Kings Mountain Gateway trail will be great some day, but right now there is not much to it, IMO, and would not be worth the drive down from NE Charlotte.
