I've seemingly noticed a increase of peddlers asking for money at the EpiCentre. I went there probably a half dozen times this summer, and no issues, but 2 times in the last month, it seems like a round robin of people are asking for money just after everyone gets off the lynx train and walks into the epicentre. It stikes me as odd because twice now, the people asking for money saying they were "homeless" had nicer clothes on then me. I understand in any big city, your going to get this, but it just strikes me as odd that its been 2 times, in the same month, in the same spot, with 2 people who were wearing clothes that cost more then what I was wearing.
I have nothing to add here except that I think you mean panhandlers. I think peddlers are people who are actually selling something, while panhandlers are just asking you to give them money. I kinda think peddlers are cool. Panhandlers not so much.
People who once had a career and a livelihood are being forced to do such things. In this day and time, I wouldn't judge someone by what you might value their clothes as to whether or not they are truly hurting.
I did mean panhandlers. Ive never lived in or close to a major city, so to me, this type of thing just seems out of character to me. I am just basing this off what ive witnessed, that is all.
just left the epicenter...didn't see anything of the sort.
Yeah, I don't see this there when I go either. Not saying it didn't happen to the OP. But keep in mind the EpiCentre is not public space, its private property, like a mall. I'd say if it happens again, look for a security officer and tell them.
Go to any gas station in a "depressed" industrial decay part of town and you will get begged for money by shady characters.....
happens to me 2 times a week at least...
