Is there somewhere else to go other than uptown/downtown? I live in Mint Hill and was wondering if Town Hall is my choice as well before I start making calls tomorrow. Trying to get this done during my christmas break. Any helpful info would be appreciated.

Do you have a marriage license yet? Because you need one and that means traveling downtown no matter what. You can however get one in any county and check with the Register of Deeds there for locations and hours of ceremonies.

If you don't have a license yet then you may want to time it to get it and get hitched on the same day. Generally this means getting in line between 2pm and 4pm on Mondays and Fridays at the courthouse next door to Mecklenburg's Register of Deeds office on 4th street.

You have two choices as to where to get married by a magistrate in Mecklenburg County (there are no other persons authorized to marry outside a minister and magistrate). You can go to the courthouse on the days and time I mentioned or you can go to the jail. That's it. Nothing more.

If you don't have your application done you can start it online at Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds (http://meckrod.manatron.com/help.asp - broken link) which covers the process, fees, and a link to a Word doc that has the magistrate hours and info.

Thanks. As I was trying to fill out the online I could not because I was not born in the US and therefore the application could not be filled out and would not go through because I could not leave that part blank. I will have to do both on the same day or I may do it separate.
