Found out my digital camcorder does not have a USB cord. So I understand I need a fire wire card in my computer, and a fire wire or DV wire to download videos from my camcorder to the PC. Is that right? Help, suggestions, advice appreciated. Need simple steps Wanna post video of daughters piano recital.

Does your camera have a USB port? If so, a USB cable is inexpensive and makes things much simpler.

Most Macs have FW built-in, if your PC does not look for a card at Best Buy.
That cam should have come with some type of mini FW cable to either FW400 or FW800.
You will also need some type of editor.
Macs come with iMovie (I use Final Cut Studio), but I am fairly certain PCs ship with something that should work fine.

If you need the footage immediately, the Apple Store @ Southpark would probably let you hook up the cam and import the tape, then just copy to SDHC card or portable drive (depending on size) for editing at home.

Keep in mind that the miniDV type camcorders require a real-time import, meaning if you have 45 minutes of footage, then the acquisition is going to take 45 minutes.
If you want to transcode at import that can take 3-6x real-time depending on the CODEC chosen.

You might try one of these. It is easier than trying to install a new card.

If you have a laptop you could also try one of these but check to make sure the laptop has a PCMCIA slot first.

Keeping it simple I would go with the wire as the cheapest option.

USB & IEEE1394 (FW) are entirely different protocols, I would call and ensure that would work, but I guess at $7 you would not be out much when it doesn't.

I thought the cable was a wonderful idea, but alas it will not work, did some checking.

So back to the original question.

So if you have a PC you can buy an internal card.

Amazon.com: PCI FireWire IEEE 1394 3 + 1 Port Card + 4/6 Pin Cable: Everything Else

If it's a laptop then the pcmia card metioned earlier.
