Can you register a car in NC by showing them the temporary cardboard NC drivers license? Or do you need to wait until you get the permanent plastic one in the mail?

edit: Looks like the answer is a no.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a temporary drivers license. I've always gone to the license office, taken whatever tests were necessary, and walked out with a license.

I"m not sure when they started it, but you only get a cardboard "Temporary Driving Certificate" with no photo at the office now, and your plastic drivers license with your photo is mailed a week or two later.

Are you required to carry a photo ID?

Government efficiency. Gotta love that oxymoron.

NC lets you keep your previous state's license.

SC takes your previous state's license when you get your SC license.

You need permanent plastic card unless you have a NC card. Read License tips & tricks post.

NC took my NJ license. However, I walked out with the permanent NC license.
