I was a member at the Ymca but they way over sold the place... got to be very frustrating. I ended up quitting and putting a gym in my garage. I did notice that they were opening a new place on s tryon in the jersey mikes, pappa johns strip mall that looked to be a real fitness center but I dont recall the name of it.
Btw, I am in berewick too. Who's your builder? We went with KB.
Peak Fitness isn't open yet, but Planet Fitness is. The Planet fitness is decent. A lot of equipment, and the monthly rate is dirt cheap (about $10 per month). My only question with that place is the potential crowds. At $10 per month, it seems like they're going for a high volume strategy.
The strip mall place mentioned in a previous post is called Achieve Fitness. I'm not sure if they're open yet, but here's their website:

We are building with KB as well..... just waiting for the permits now. How was your experience?

It's $10 because it's a high volume place that strictly offers weights and cardio. No classes, no pool, no basketball, etc. But if you're just looking for weight equipment and cardio machines, it's worth a look!
I'm a member at both. $25 a month for Peak and $10 a month for Planet Fitness ($59 Enrollment fee but it is a month to month contract. $19 a month is available with $0 down but is 12 months.) Planet fitness is a lot cleaner but is missing some machines. This is done on purpose to keep bodybuilders and powerlifters from wanting to join. I have had two billing mistakes with them but other than that they have been very friendly. I wouldn't recommend Peak to anyone. They actually forged my initials to extend my contract past they original 24 months. Have been fighting them for the last two weeks and everyone there is clueless. They have a lot of equipment but it is quite dirty. Concerning the previously posted comment about Planet Fitness being crowded, I haven't found that to be true and I work out around 6:30 pm. I have visted the Y across the street and that was quite crowded at that time.
