My husband and I are thinking of moving to Charlotte.

We're looking for a condo, or an apartment in a high-rise -- or maybe a loft. NOT a house, NOT a yard. Think URBAN.

What's the best neighborhood to consider?

When we visit and start looking, what should we tell the realtor?

I adore NYC but for many reasons we can't move there.

We're looking for an urban environment with an active street life. If I leave my apartment, I want to see people on the street. Stuff to do.

I guess what I'm asking is, which part of Charlotte is most urban?

Thanks --

My guess is that if you love NY you probably will not like Charlotte. Your only real choice for urban is downtown (newbies call it Uptown). Just tell the realtor 'high rise, urban' and give them your price range.

Charlotte doesn't have a street life unless you count people walking to work or bums on benches. There may be a hot dog stand or two downtown.

Ironically, a lot of people move to Charlotte to get AWAY from Urban street life.

Thank you, everyone!

That was my suspicion, and you have all confirmed it for me.

Not Charlotte, then.

Any other recommendations?

Looking for something along the eastern coast of the US, preferably on the Amtrak line.

Any ideas?
