Default relocating to union county or fortmill

I will be relocating to the charlotte area and I think I narrowed it down to Indian Trail in Union County or Fort Mill, SC. I am hoping we're not wrong. We're going down this weekend to see the two areas and visit some communites and hopefully make the final decision. I am most interested in the Spicewood community of Fort Mill and Ravenhill community of Indian Trail. I think I got those correct. If anyone has any comments on these or any advice; we'd love to hear them. We are going to be empty nesters so we're not concerned about schools. We are; however, concerned about safety. Which led me to these areas over the Charlotte/Mechklenburg area. My price max is 250,000 or so. This forum is really good for research. My husband and I are originally from NJ but spent the last 13 years in VA. We're now ready to move further south. I'm in the IT field and my husband; Law enforcement. I read somewhere about union count not having their own water supply. Can someone please elaborate on this. I can't be trying to dip water out of a well Also, can I get cable and high speed internet in these areas? I've been spoiled by moderning conveniences! Thanks

Basically Union Co. buys water from Lancaster County, SC. I read this in the Lancaster paper a couple of times when water restrictions was in the news for both counties.

I found this short description on Lancaster's water and sewer page.

Lancaster Water and Sewer District - About Us

I wonder if there's a difference in what a Lancaster and Union resident pays for water. It costs me about $30 for 3,000 gallons of water and $20 for 3,000 gallons of sewer service. Can anyone comment? Do some areas of Lancaster or Union have better or worse service?

I live in the Indian Land area of Lancaster, not far from the state line. I have high speed internet. I'm sure large areas of Union have access to high speed internet through Time Warner Cable and maybe even DSL providers. I see Time Warner and Windstream trucks all the time.

Hope this helps.

In Fort Mill you can get high speed Internet from Comporium through your cable lines, or via DSL from the satellite companies. We're thoroughly modern here

Default Fort Mill

I would say Fort Mill. I just purchased at the Reserve at Gold Hill just down the road from Spicewood. I originally planned on purchasing at Spicewood great prices for the sq footage, but once seeing the Reserve i could not resist. My price range originally started at 250k, which will get you a home in Spicewood you will need to spend 300k to purchase at the Reserve. Brandon Oaks in Indian Trial was my second choice. I see your husbands in Law Enforcement. I'm retiring from the NYC Police Dept. So extensive research was conducted on both areas. Good look in your home search you can't go wrong with either choice.

I agree. I think the deciding factor really is how close you want or don't want to be to Charlotte. Union County is a little further out, but Fort Mill is never too far from Charlotte.

Thank you all for you excellent replies. I am grateful for your extensive research harding123; presumbly on the crime data; being in law enforcement. This was a factor in narrowing down our choices.
