My husband and I are huge boaters and we want to relocate to the Lake Norman area. We have 2 boys (8 and 5) so great schools are a must! Our housing budget will be anywhere between $700,000-1,000,000 and we want to be on the water (to be on the water though, this budget doesn't go very far.) We currently live in a great community, with outstanding schools and family activities. I'm looking for the same. Great schools, access to great restaurants/shopping, family activities. Any suggestions as to where I should begin looking?

If you plan to dock your boat at this property, you will need to note that for a new dock or dock expansions that it has to be approved by Duke Energy, the owner of the lakes.

The school information can be researched at ReDir. For Cornelius (southern part of Lake Norman) you would select Charlotte-Mecklenburg County schools. The Elem. schools are located in Cornelius and the High School (Hough High) is new so it does not have a report card yet. For Mooresville select Iredell-Statesville Schools. The lake area schools would be Woodland Heights Elem., Lakeshore Elem., Lake Norman Elem., Brawley Middle, Lakeshore Middle and Lake Norman High. Mooresville has award wininng schools. Mooresville also has lower tax rates then Mecklenburg County.

It really depends on what time of day you go.

cornelius to downtown is about a 15- 20 min commute. Expect about 30-45 mins in rush hour. When they built 485 that makes life ALOT easier to get to the west. You can get to the airport using 485 in about 20 minutes. If you choose Mooresville then add another 10 mins or so to your ride.

WOW! How Lake Norman has changed since I lived there during my senior year at Davidson College in a quaint 3 bedroom A-frame in 1976.
