I am almost finished my bachelors degree. My future hubby is in law school. Currently, we are living in New England and contemplating a move to North or South Carolina in a couple years to plant our roots, but with the economy being the way it is, I'm worried employment will be difficult to find, especially for an entry level attorney and I am planning to start my own business. I suppose I'm looking for reassurance or warnings now lol

Its just like any other city. Just find a site that lists unemployment rates by city and pick the one with the lowest unemployment rate. Its easy

It's not necessarily an impulsive decision. I don't mind the winter weather here, but in the next two to three years we'd like to move further south. We are not New England natives, so it's not like we're only accustomer to life here. Raised in Ga and Md and both of us have lived all over the country.

I think it is hard to predict what is going to happen by the time you move here.

I know attorneys who have lost their jobs in the large firms, and I have friends and relatives who are attorneys and paralegals who have lost a lot of business in their solo practices or small boutique firms.

The best way to decide where to move after your hubby finishes law school is to start working with nationwide recruiters and see where he can land a job. Your hubby's alumni association (law school) may very well be a resource for new JD graduates. Start there and see what is available as far as info re: what firms may be recruiting.

The other resource would be w/ government entities - even the Justice Dept in DC, especially if your hubby is specializing in immigration law, fraud and abuse, etc.

Good luck!

My opinion is it depends on a person's skillset, work ethic, communication skills and what they have to offer. Can you/your husband offer what people are looking for?

From a business perspective, it depends on what you are selling. How much will it cost to start up, how much profit can you make, are people willing to buy it? There are many things to take into consideration.

Many attorneys here are working in paralegal roles or teaching. It is a very tough market right now.
