Garrett Alexander the Mecklenburg County Tax Assessor announced tonight at the Board of Commissioners meeting that tax reval notices for condos in the county will be delayed by 30 days.

This will effect about 22,000 tax payers but will not interfere with appeal rights.

Apparently there are a couple of things at play. Some technical, some market.

First, the parcel ID system for condos tends to lump them in together and harder to separate for evaluation.

Second, the foreclosure and empty units are prompting the assessor to take a harder look at the market forces at play.

The current goal is to have the new valuations mailed at the same time as commercial values which should be sometime around March 7.

I'm going to call this a City-Data exclusive as far as the timing at least since I personally and exclusively cornered Mr. Alexander on his way out of the government center tonight
