Water Treatment Smell in Waxhaw
Hi,
I know other posts have had some talk of this but I have to add my own two cents...
Am I the only one who finds the smell of waste water treatment in Waxhaw absolutely repulsive!!?? I just moved here three weeks ago and I cannot fathom how folks have dealt with it all these years...it is disgusting! My kids think so too!
Unfortunately, I did not do enough homework before we bought! I knew it was there but never did smell it during our home search. I was also told it is much worse by Quellin etc.
Had I known what I do now regarding the smell, I might not have bought our home!
My question is do others smell it? Is there anything we can all do to try and eliminate the smell further? I know it used to be worse! I cannot imagine that.
Frustrated in Waxhaw...

We smelled it when we house shopped 2.5 years ago. I don't know why builders/developers in the region decide to build homes around these facilities.

Well..they build them because they are nice looking in a desirable school district with nice geography..then there comes the smell! I feel so stupid for not having done my homework! People that claim they hardly ever smell it need to have their noses checked!

My wife and I have noticed a foul smell down towards Kennsington and Providence. I believe it's right near the water plant. It's funny because we were just talking about how anybody could possibly live with that stench. Whew!

We signed a contract in PRESCOT, across from Quellin... That was the major reason we backed down.. I am so grateful for this forum!! Where exactly do you live jdubs1017?
I was afraid of buying there and on a nice summer day at the pool or in the backyard having to smell that, I don't think I would want that stuff floating airborne if it does while cooking on my grill outside.. So for that main reason, we backed down out of our deal with KB Homes, I was kinda of regretting it, but you have made me think that the decision was a right one. I called the head of that plant to ask him some questions, it is NOT a WATER TREATMENT, it is RAW SEWAGE for sure.
His name was Mark, I called the Union County Public Works number and they referred all my questions to him. He said there are no additional plans to contain any extra smell, they have already capped it... So I don't understand if they have capped it, why does it still smell so bad... We rolled down our windows and my son start screaming in the back and he blamed me .lol... Anyways, I don't know how at one point they were selling $450 homes right around the plant, seems like a big scam...
Pretty gross!

This has been discussed many times on this board. It is a sewage treatment plant that dumps treated water into 12 mile creek. The UC commisioners did spend serveral mil $ of taxpayer money to cap the place a few years ago to pander to developers. Unfortunately, it is still a poop plant and as much as many people in that area, think theirs has no odor, poop still stinks... Hey you could always move over to Stonegate. No poop over there, but the occasional sound of automatic gunfire, might make the poop smell seem more tolerable

I'm in Waxhaw and do not smell anything foul. Although, I'm on the edge of Waxhaw, on the border with Mineral Springs.

I'd rather NOT say where I am so I can pull the "poop" over someone else's nose! I am a few miles from it but I assure you...it does smell every week at least a few times!! I feel so DUMB for having bought here! Those that bought right across from it are INSANE!!

Yeah thats a bit far west I think. Mostly you'll get it around the Cureton area up to Marvin Rd. I used to live off of Pine Oak Rd and as soon as I saw that they were enlarging the plant, I got the heck on outta there. I agree with the OP, I don't know how those folks that live in the town houses right across the rd from the plant can stand it.
