Has anyone been to Uwharrie Park in Troy? Is it nice? What areas around there is nice? What about to sleep? Its our anniversary and I'm trying to plan something romantic. We both love the nature as well. Any recommendations would be great. Thank you all.

Rustic, primative (some toilets and there is water) and rural. If you have horses BRING them to Uwharrie..Gotta stop at the Eldorado Outpost (it is just before the entrance on Hwy 109 I believe) they have maps and all the info you need to get around the park. They have their own Eldoradooutpost DOT COM address. You will need vehicle passes IF you want to drive OFF ROAD--no passes needed for staying on the roads.

Uwharrie is frequented by ATV riders and horseback riders, I'm guessing it will be perfect for you.... (not a very "upity" crowd)

Yeah, I see. Defitn. will leave Uwharrie just for Atv's. =)
What other towns are there around the area of Uwharrie? I noticed there's Albermale, how is that? I just want to go somewhere where I would have a nice romantic time w hubby. The furthest Im willing to drive is 2-3hrs. How is Charlotte, since its near Uwharrie? Is it nice? I'm sorry I am asking all these questions, I'm new to NC and I would like to have a good time in our anniversary.

Charlotte is the largest city in the Carolinas. If you're the "Uwharrie" type, then chances are you probably wouldn't like Charlotte. I've been to both and loved both. Troy is very rural and Charlotte is freaking huge.

IMO, there is nothing romantic about Uwharrie, unless you are into car camping with your motorized RV, drinking keystone lite and listening to Kid Rock from three campsites over..... (not that there is anything wrong with that). I'm just saying it's more of a "place to go" than romantic.

Charlotte is definitely "big city", but there is plenty to do there, it's just not "the nature".

Other options to look at:
-Camping at Jordan Lake
-Camping up near Pilot Mountain (there is a state park up there, but the name escapes me)
-Beaches
-Wilmington
-etc.

Sorry to not be more help, but you really have to go online and check these places out for yourself. While one of my best buddies loves taking his Fiance to Uwharrie to camp, they bring the dogs, some motorcycles and have a great time, I know that my wife, daughter and I would absolutely hate it. My idea of camping would be up in Pisgah National forest, for hiking, mountainbiking and waterfalls. Neither one is right or wrong, it just depends on what you like.

Wherever you go, I hope you both have fun. Seems liek you can accomplish that wherever you end up. :-)

Where are you located now? Try heading west instead, like Boone or Lake Lure. Beautiful, rustic and slightly more romantic than Uwharrie. I went hiking in Uwharrie, it was nice but primitive.
