Hey,

My hubby and I are looking to find a place with good, southern-style breakfast/brunch... I know this may sound ignorant, but are the Waffle House's any good, or should we avoid? Looking for non-chain quality...

Oh, we live in the Mallard Creek area, but might be willing to drive up to 15 minutes or so.

Thanks

Check the health rating before you eat there....

Waffle House??? DEFINITELY check the health score beforehand. My Sunday Brunch recommendations would include the Original Pancake House (NOT IHOP) on South Blvd or Sharon Rd. in Southpark, Village Tavern, or the Pewter Rose.

OH MY GOODNESS.

Please, for the love of god, stay away from Waffle House.

I agree with the above poster, except for Original Pancake House. I personally call that Original Stomach Ache, but I know I am minority on that opinion.

Pewter Rose is fantastic. I go there often. I also frequent City Tavern for brunch. Last Sunday was Waldhorn for brunch buffet. It was ok....not bad as far as buffets go because in general buffets are never as good as ordering off the menu. Pike's on Camden also have a very popular brunch. Also, try Red Rocks at Birkdale.

Someone else told me same thing about Pewter Rose,Mom's B-day next week we're going to try!

I thought Red Rocks was a fancy burger joint ,no? ( i don't know)

Although it's been awhile since i've been there for brunch , Villa Antonio is worth a mention ! two hands = two plates ! so much to choose from.

LOL, yep Red Rocks is a "fancy burger" joint, but they do good brunch, too!

There was a thread about this back in April as well that had a ton of great suggestions. Unfortunately, we opted for Red Rocks in Birkdale as our first brunch experiment and it was AWFUL. I am seriously the easiest person to please....a couple of eggs and toast and I'm pretty happy. The food was so cold that it had to be sent back twice. It took two hours for us to eat there which was really fun with three kids and the service was the worst we've ever experienced in Charlotte. This was the one and only time I've ever been unhappy with a Charlotte area anything. Maybe that Sunday was a total fluke but there were a lot of unhappy customers in there that day that ended up spending two long hours with lots of kids screaming and crying. My husband left and went to Starbucks next door because the coffee was so cold. They told us that our food was cold because we had chosen to sit outside and it was a long walk from the kitchen to the outdoor patio. What? Save your gas money and try out one of the other places recommended. Just one persons opinion

Waldhorn in Pineville or Pike's in South End are the best brunch choices.

What is that place called on Fairview down the road from SouthPark Mall? It is behind the McDonald's? It is not a chain and they have some unusual type dishes.
