Hi all, I 'm looking to buy some art pieces for a house I just moved into. I'm wondering if there are any places you can recommend where I might find some orginal stuff done by local artists? I don't want anything from a big-box store but something unique.

A friend was telling me about the Spotlight on Art- Artist's Market in Atlanta that has original art pieces in various price ranges and I'm wondering if Charlotte has anything like this or if there are places you can recommend? Spotlightonart.com

Thanks!

I'm sure that you'll get plenty of places in Charlotte, but it never hurts to have extra places.

I have seen street vendors in NODA (you might have to go on a weekend) selling some pretty interesting looking art.

The Camden Art Market is closed for the winter, but should be starting again soon - this takes place once a month. They have a facebook page; if you're not on facebook, you can google and find information.

The gallery crawls are *great* opportunities to see & purchase art - though most galleries are open every day! At the crawls, more people will be out, and like XcapefromNJ pointed out there are street vendors, etc. And usually free wine!

NoDa has a gallery crawl the first & third Fridays. SouthEnd has a gallery crawl the first Friday of every month - not sure if they go through the winter, NoDa does. I thought I'd heard of Uptown Gallery Crawls, too, but I don't know when those are.

Like I said, you don't have to wait for a crawl! You can visit a gallery any time & view & purchase art. There's a range of prices. I don't know of a singular place that lists the galleries in Charlotte; it might be fun to google & pick an area to go to & explore.

Pura Vida Worldly Art often carries local artists' work, and they're right there in NoDa now, so you could zip into those galleries, too.

I'm glad I asked. Most of these places I'd never heard of which explains why I really thought there was a shortage of places around here to see and buy some local art. I might even try to make it to the art crawl which is something I always wanted to do but still haven't. Thanks!

The stuff in NoDa is great for people watching when the weather gets a little nicer.

There are some galleries on South Blvd that you may want to check out as well. I'm not sure they're all local artists though.
