Why isn't 485 loop complete? Just from looking at the map of Charlotte, it appears a small section is not complete in the NE section. What is that so? Thanks
It is not complete because it was not funded. The original funding to finish the loop was diverted to widen an existing portion. I don't think there is even a date (a real one not the placating *don't worry people north of Charlotte you will finally get your piece* dates)

The irritating thing is they finished the North Hwy 77 to 85 which is probably the least used part and have left the sliver that would REALLY be used. I was told that the reasoning was by completing the less traveled portion there would be more options for expansions (tax money, home building). My real guess is they knew once the North 85 to North 77 segment there would be little interest for the other piece.

Construction is supposed to begin around July of this year and probably won't be done until around 2014.

They're supposed to be rebuilding the I-85/485 interchange to one similar to the 77/485 interchange in South Charlotte and finally widening I-85 north to Hwy 73 in Cabarrus County.

What REALLY needs to happen is them widen 485 from 77 to Independence. The congestion during rush hour is just sad. All you hear about is cars at a stand still between pineville-matthews and providence.

Wow - I am still not holding my breath but that sounds like a glimmer of hope.

I will try to not think about the fact that my son was not walking when I was told the loop up here was *coming soon* and by 2014 he will be able to drive LOL!

It's listed on the NCDOT website. That seems official to me. NCDOT: Home

Widening I-485 to six-lanes from I-77 to U.S. 521 is scheduled to begin construction in 2014, according to the draft State Transportation Improvement Program.

Don't you love how long it takes Raleigh to get ***** done when it's outside of their little research triangle. God forbid anyone else need funding.

IMO it should be pushed to be completed by summer of 2012 in time for the DNC.
So all non-local truck traffic can be diverted from taking 77 near Uptown.
