We are thinking of moving to the Lake Norman area. We have 2 teenage boys and an 8 year old boy. Any thoughts on East Vs West side of the lake? The boys want kids their age of course. The Farms and Sailview both caught our attention.

I love living on the West Side in the Denver/ Sherrills Ford area. With Hwy 16 Bypass open now, you can be in Charlotte in under 40 mins. My wife and I don't have any kids yet, but she grew up in Lincoln County schools and her relatives are in the school system now. One of the top rated in the state.

Definitely less traffic and development than the East Side along I-77, but of course it seems like there is more and more. Not as many restaurants, but slowly getting more and you can always drive into Huntersville or Mooresville (or Charlotte for high-end).

Sailview is a great neighborhood, and houses in there are probably the most affordable now they have been in years. I don't think you will go wrong moving to the West Side of Lake Norman. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Plus, boating season is right around the corner!!

Thanks for the input. I think the west side will be getting busier and busier.

We looked at houses all over the East and West side of the lake when we bought back in August. We really liked both sides and seriously considered two houses in Sherrills Ford but driving up 150 into Mooresville in the mornings and then back out in the evenings swayed us away from that. That traffic can be horrible and it's just not something I wanted to sign up for.

However, with that said, if you aren't commuting into Mooresville for work then that side, especially Sherrills Ford, is a great area.

Thanks, that helps. I'm hearing a lot about Moorsville traffic.

Traffic was my #1 reason for not moving to Mooresville sooner but really, after living here for a little while, you learn the back roads and shortcuts to avoid 150 and Williamson for the most part so its not so painful. Once Brawley Rd. construction is done and the new exit opened up that will help tremendously on that side of 77.

This is absolutely true! People make way too big a deal out of Mooresville traffic.

Usually it's people that don't live here, or even visit

Yes, that would fairly describe me before I moved here. haha I commuted in, only saw traffic on 150 and Williamson and was thankful to leave it behind at 5:30pm! haha Now I just never see those two roads!
