"Curiously, while crime problems are often linked to some of the nation’s older cities, like New York, Chicago or Detroit, they don’t even make the list, this time. In fact, only one East Coast neighborhood falls into the Top Ten, Charlotte, NC’s First Ward, where 103.54 of 1,000 vehicles are stolen."

boo frickin' hoo

one square mile of our city scores big on car thefts.

here's an idea. pick a small enough area and with some bad luck we could rack up a 100% auto theft rate.

more bull**** statistics for people who like bull****.

Never could understand the "ward" thing. If it was a "ward" I moved on. With great alacrity.

Uptown Charlotte, the area inside I-277, is divided into 4 quadrants separated by Tryon St. (north/south) and Trade St. (east/west). These are the 4 "wards" from historical times. Except for the turn of the 20th century homes that still exist in 4th ward, there is little resemblance to when the names had more significance.

First Ward is the section East of Tryon and North of Trade. Bobcats Arena, North Davidson St, Courtside condos are all 1st Ward. From there going counter clockwise you will find 2nd ward (42 story 1 First Union/Wachovia/Whatever tower), 3rd Ward (BofA stadium), and 4th ward. Generally the wards are bound by I-277 now, but before they built that highway, they extended out further.

northeast quadrant of center city. trade and tryon mark the west and south boundary. 277 marks the north and east.

the other 3 wards are the other 3 quadrants, moving clockwise around center city.

Thanks for posting that.
Personally, I find ir surprising and BAD .
The only city on the east cost that's in the TOP 10?

Either it's questionable data or............ - well there are too many possible reasons to list I guess.

Here's another article with maps
10 Worst Neighborhoods for Car Theft

Looking further at the Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed website I'm dubious about the data when I look at the TOP 10 most exensive cities in NC.

Wouldn't something like this be indicative of a "ring" or organization specifically targeting that area? That seems like something that LE could be looking into as you can cut off the head of the beast and fall out of this list fairly quickly.
