To those of you living in the Lake Norman area, what is the commute like from Cornelius (Exit 25) into Uptown? Will I be sitting in my car over 45 minutes in the morning? Is there a park-n-ride nearby? I would appreciate all of your feedback, please give pros and cons to living past Exit 23. Thanks.

Yes, it will take 45 minutes.

Park and ride is on 21 in Huntersville. They also pick up at Northcross Shopping Center and Cornelius Town Hall. Check the CATS transit website for schedules.

Depends on what time you have to be at work. It takes me 20 minutes to get downtown since I leave after traffic rush.

So what's your schedule?

True carolina guy. Leaving at 9am helps a lot. However, most people can't do that. So if you have to leave home between 6:50 am and 8:30am, it is best to put aside 45 minutes, especially if there are accidents.

I know what you are saying, kmway. But even if I leave at 8:30am, I can get to Cotswold by no later than 9am. If you gave yourself 45 minutes everyday, you are likely to get to work on time to drink your coffee, eat your bagel, and read through section A of the Observer.

I commuted from both LKN and the university area to uptown for many years. There were often accidents, and giving myself the extra time was a good idea, just in case. I hate to be late and get the boss's evil eye! :-)

Plus, a lot of us need to be at work by 8:30, and I always made sure I left the house at 7:40-45 to be safe.

If it's a concern then it's probably not for you. Seems there is ALWAYS a problem on I-77 northbound during the afternoon rush hour. There is an "express" bus from the north with Park'N'Ride lots - I have a friend in Davidson who rides that and enjoys it.
