Due to the issues in school I am behind this 100%

Unfortunately the reality is that at a large number of schools when class breaks you have fights, kids leave school, kids use drugs, and potentially worse.

Yup, a little PC goes a long way. The authorities can't just keep telling them to behave & not follow through on threats of reprisals. Releasing the punishment to the public is a nice touch, in my opinion.

In these posts and in the posts after the article I see no one questioning the terms of the lockdown. According to the article, the kids are allowed a recess and a phys ed period, but certain "optional" courses have been cancelled as part of the lockdown. What are these "optional" courses? Could they be music and art? I really don't know as I am not a teacher, so maybe someone can fill me in on what they are.

Maybe I shouldn't be doing this, but I am guessing that they are music and art. If so, this is the worst part of the lockdown. Music, art, and physical education are a very important part of a child's education!! Is this how we punish children, by taking away half of their curriculum??? Yet no parent/observer/poster has said a word. This is typical of the mentality of American parents. They could care less what or how their kids are learning, they are only concerned about their "freedom and "rights"." I guess this is why America produces so many lawyers and lawsuits while Asian parents force their children to practice the piano and violin. It is easy to see why the education system in this country is so far behind.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

Art, music & certain other classes are categorized as electives. They are not legally reqired. How would you propose that the principal punish them?

Fights are automatic suspensions for example. That will end it quick.

You can have rules with teeth that punish bad behavior. If the school can't enforce it, then they deserve (an out of control school). Its the same situation like at home.

If you look at the history of this school and the different principals they have had it will help you know where the blame falls. This troubled school has been slack on discipline and suffered very low teacher moral who have complained even to Gorman about their dislike for the methods (or lack of) used by this principal. This last resort to get back control of the school reflects very poorly upon this principal. None of our other schools have to use this type of general punishment so that should tell you something.I think she needs to go.

you are guessing about something that you have no idea what it really is, then you are proceeding to judge people based on your guesses. Since it is just your opinion, you are neither right or wrong, but you shouldn't judge people on something that you don't really have any insight to

Unfortunately, at this school, the principal eliminated art 2 years ago. More than likely the optional courses are music, chorus, band, orchestra, phys ed and business courses as well as the spanish class remaining...

It's not easy being a principal or teacher in a school where there's misbehaving and under achieving students. Where's the parents of these troublesome students? Apparently they're missing the mark. I hate it when some parents use school as a day care, not actively involved with their child's learning. Would it be wrong to just allow the unmotivated students to keep doing what they're doing and pay more attention to the more serious and motivated students? What a tough situation....

My point exactly.

If you let the kids rule the roost, what do you expect?
