I have been in the midst of a situation with AT&T since Wednesday, trying to get U-Verse installed. I will cut to the chase for now and can fill in details later.
My concern at this point is:
The tech is here. He won't answer any questions. I was told by sales that a tech would assess the wiring and discuss with me all options, i.e., putting in another TV outlet, which room to install DVR box in, etc.
My question is . . . I was told by a friend who has U-Verse in another state that although she has four boxes on her TVs, she has 2 TVs in bedrooms that do not have a box on them. They were simply hooked up to cable with splitters. They get only basic cable - you can't perform the other services that are available with U-Verse.
I asked the sales people about this when I first called about hooking up U-Verse. They said the tech could explain all this to me and would do so when they assessed the wiring.
I asked this tech and he said - Ma'am, I am here to fulfill an order. I am not here to answer questions. Just let me do my job.
Hmmm.
Then I told him my alarm company (and U-Verse customer care) said that I needed to make sure he is aware of the alarm system and that it will need to be tested while he is still there to see what else needs to be done to get it working.
I told him and he said - well that is between you and the alarm company, not between us and them.
HUH?
Seeing as how this installation has already been botched two days running, I am very concerned that this tech is not discussing anything and seems to only want to fulfill an order = even tho I was told no order would be fulfilled til options had been explained.
I got U-Verse installed without any hassle and they answered all my questions... not sure what your guy's problem is.
I would tell him, "I have questions, and if you can't answer them, I need to hold off on installation until they can be answered."
I thought all tvs had to have boxes in order to work....it's definitely nice to be able to use DVR in any room and record from any TV.
NOTE: Alarm systems (the majority) will not work with U-Verse's phone line system... I got U-Verse cable and Internet but had to keep AT&T's phone without U-Verse until CPI can integrate it into their system.
^Agreed - tell him to get off your property and send someone else who hasn't had a personality bypass.
(I have had UVerse since January and my tech guy was more than obliging when answering Q's.......perhaps this guy has gotten in touble previously for misleading customers and is under an AT&T-imposed gag order)
I would politely ask him to stop everything or leave. Call AT&T and demand answers and satisfaction. I bet it your issues can be resolved and you will get some credit on your upcoming bills!

Ani, I'd kick him out & cancel the order & tell them to put everything back as it was.
I do not have AT&T & came home one day to a notice that they had done an install at my house hanging on my front door. It took me 2 hours to straighten that mess out & got no apology from them.
