Not always "cheap", but check out the Verizon Ampitheater for their concerts. I like sitting out under the stars on a blanket in the summer at a show there

Get a copy of Creative Loafing every week or so to find little blurbs about places that might be offering music that week. There are not a lot of "street fairs" in Charlotte, but you can still find music outside at certain times like the 4th of July.

Oh, and check with the Whitewater Rafting Center...they usually do a 'Budwiser Concert Series' every Thursday evening in the summer. You sit by the water and just enjoy the music under the stars

Went tonight and Liquid Love peformed well. Yeah, there was a little sound issue, but overall they had all of us, up and dancing. We couldn't ask for better weather.

Just wish there was some sort of vendors selling quick food to match the alcohol consumption.

Alive After Five is not known for the music - it's 99% cover bands... basically background music for people drinking.

The US National Whitewater Center has a concert series of its own, mostly with local, original music by area musicians. Same time with the backdrop of the rapids.

If you're looking for a good concert series - head to the Whitewater Center. If you're looking to just hang out in the city and have some drinks, go to Alive After 5.
