I have a relative who was involved in a wreck on I-77 southbound, somewhere near Charlotte. Date not sure, in the last two weeks.
It happened around 3am and traffic was closed for 2 hours.
A car rear ended an SUV pulling a trailer. The driver of the car that hit the trailer, ran from the scene.
After the passengers of the SUV got out, another car hit the SUV.
I am not able to get any details other than that.
No serious injuries but a huge traffic tie up, and there should be a news story on it.
Thanks.

There have been several 'notable' accidents in the area lately (not trying to be funny), but I don't recall hearing of any involving an SUV and trailer combo.

Speaking of traffic, why does WBT have 3 traffic reporters doing the traffic reports in the mornings? Atleast put one of those people on from 9PM-5AM giving live reports at the top of the hour to give Charlotte that bigger city feel.

I couldn't find anything that matched that description in any of the news archives. There are lots of accidents that cause huge traffic tie ups so unless a bunch of people die they don't necessarily get much coverage. Do a Google search for Charlotte news if you want to check the news sites yourself.

They don't do regular live reports on traffic because they aren't necessary. They report when there is a major accident but for the most part traffic is pretty stable so why would they waste the salary of another reporter?

They were coming back from Raleigh, so MY error, it must have happened on I-85 and not I-77.
A luxury car, maybe a mercedes, going 70-100 slammed into the back of the trailer. The trailer separated from the SUV and pushed the SUV into the concrete barrier between the south and northbound lanes.
The passengers of the SUV got out and moments later the SUV was demolished by another vehicle, preventing the SUV passengers from possible death. The driver of the mercedes fled the scene,

and like a dumb bank robber, left his tax return in his car with his name, address and s.s. number.

The SUV passengers had to be picked up by relatives and taken to Rock Hill.
The police located the runaway driver. The traffic was blocked for about two hours and it happened around 3am. Date unknown but it was in the last 1-2 weeks.

Some of these car accidents, the details of them, can help prevent other accidents. The car going 70-100 and weaving in and out as he was passing cars was unable to stop when he encountered too much traffic to keep doing what he was doing. His tag number should have been recorded by other drivers and reported to state police.

I'm not sure why the newspapers do not report these accidents. Are they trying to hide something?

I'll try to edit my title as I now think it happened on I-85.

here is a video.
I'm positive this is it, though my uncle said the sedan rear ended the trailer being pulled by one of the SUV's. Not all wrecks have a driver who, on foot, tried to escape the scene and the time and the location fit the details told to me.

I haven't seen a report but WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD SOMEONE RUN AWAY FROM A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT?
