I can't recall ever seeing this asked, so here it goes.

When you use a parking lot, and you pull into your parking space and leave your cash in the slot for that space, how do they know how to get your change back to you? Are you supposed to leave a card with your address or phone number as well?

The reason I ask is that it seems impractical to always have the exact amount required on hand. If the parking is $3, and all you have is a $20, how do you get your $17 change back?

Right. Impractical, but that's how it is.

Some places have put in debit card parking, which is helpful. Trying to remember where that was...

Don't even get me started on those stupid lots. I got a notice one time saying I didn't pay even though I know I put the money in there. I suppose it is better than most cities though where you don't have a nice two or three dollar option.

Yeah - you don't. Exact change only... not sure why someone would leave a $20 for a $3 spot and expect to get change from the invisible attendant.

One lot at 7th and Tryon has credit pay at the gate after you leave. Most of the garages do too. Just make sure you break that 20 before parking.

The one I was directed to use was on Phifer Ave. The place I was visiting stated that they have an arrangement for their clients to pay only $3 if you placed a pre-printed placard on your dash. Since I didn't have the small bills, I used a debit card. Of course, I was charged $5.75, not $3. I guess if I continue to go there I'll have to save some singles and use cash.

Passport Parking is coming into Charlotte! They are a credit / debit card system with remote management if you need assistance. The first lot is going in at Caldwell and MLK this summer. You can follow them on facebook.com/passportparking or at passportparking.com

I can't wait until they replace all of the old, antiquated cash drop box lots!
