M/I Homes
i am moving from new york to charlotte withing the next year. i went down to NC earlier this year and i saw a number of houses from different communities. although it is no new york, i like the place. so far i have whittled my search to Standard pacific and M/I homes. standard pacific looks great and i loved some of their floor plans but there is so much that comes standard with M/I homes. does anybody have any useful advice?

Also relocated from NY welcome to NC (almost!)
I like both of them as builders. MI allows you to customize a bit more. Either way, you ought to have a buyers agent, especially if you are building from out of town...I think there is a thread on that topic as well.
Best of luck to you

We bought our home from M/I in Cureton. We've been living here for a bit over a month now, and M/I has been very easy to deal with and accomodating. Everyone we've spoken to and dealt with has been very nice, and our house looks wonderful.
Just one bit of advice- keep track of the building process of your house. Get a buyer's agent and they can do that for you if you're out of town.

If you are coming soon, I would definelity go with M/I. We signed a contract with M/I just recently. We have our presonstruction meeting this week. The rest of the states are doing so poorly right now that they are tryng to sell as many homes as possible in Charlotte, which still has a decent market, and are willing to deal. We got like $33,500 off list price for our home. Its right at 3000 sq feet on a .33 acre lot, loaded with upgrades, for $286,000.

We're close to signing with M/I too at Falcon Ridge And are super excited with the incentives and the way M/I will let us customize our home. Also, they offer many upgrades as standard features in their homes. Their customer service has been great so far and we're looking forward to the rest of the building process with them. I agree about getting a buyer's agent. Ours has been a great help and given us a lot of useful information to help us decide.
Good Luck!

If you go to mihomes.com they are a semi-custom builder with some of their lines starting from the 200's
