I will be moving to Charlotte in a few weeks (hey, who isn't?). I have been researching summer camps and notice the vast majority end on August 12th with school starting August 25th. (I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm mistaken).

Im curious, if this is the norm, what do most parents do for that 2 weeks in between?

Thanks

Chrome, I will have to figure something out. LOL. I'm in VA and the camps typically run up until the Friday before the new week of school. I will be starting a new job and doubt I will be able to take the time off. But I will work something out.

I understand that this is probably the camp folks' only time for their own family vacations.

You might want to check with the Y's around town, maybe they offer something right up until school starts the new year? I bet you will find something. If you guys plan on attending a church maybe they will offer something?

Good luck on the move!

The reason is to allow for parents to spend some time with their young'uns outside of a structured environment. Go take a trip with the kids with no TV, internet, etc etc. Maybe this isn't something that some parents don't do now.

The real reasons are complex. You may have been looking at summer camps held in schools. They need to close in order for the school staff to get into the school.

Another reason may be their summer hires are typically college students who are heading back to school. When do school start in VA? Here they start late August by state law, which interefers with many college schedules.

It has nothing to do with trying to force parents into a vacation with their kids. Like you, many people are unable to take those weeks off. Besides, it would be silly to think the entire state takes the same vacation time. I think there has to be places available, it just makes business sense if there are limited options during that time frame.

Some areas in VA I-95 east and north start after labor day and on the west and southwest side about the same time as here.

That was in reference to another post implying she should spend time with her kids, ignoring that she does not have vacation time yet. I just made a comment, nothing for you to get upset or confused over or try to stir up trouble over.
