My wife is looking for a vet for our cats annual checkups, and we haven't been to one yet. Anybody have recommendation on where would be the best place to go?

We live in Steele Creek and take our cats to the Carolina Place Animal Hospital in Fort Mill. It's near the Lowe's across from Baxter Village -- takes about 15 minutes to get there. We really like Dr. Bobby (Dr. Robert Chappell) -- nice guy, seems to really know his stuff. Prices seemed reasonable. Luckily, we haven't had to go often, but we've been happy there when we did have to go.

We go to Total Bond Vet in Lake Wylie. I recommend it. Good place.

We go to Piper Glen Animal Hospital. I don't know how the prices compare, but the service and care you get there are worth any price to me. They are awesome, and we love Dr. Brown. She's a cat specialist but is great w/our dogs too. I know it's not in the Steele Creek area, but I don't mind driving a little for good care for my furbabies. We tried Steele Creek Animal Hospital in an emergency once, and our cat almost died from a misdiagnosis. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Piper Glen is nice, but I take mine to Tega Cay Animal Hospital. You'll see a lot of reviews on the York/Lancaster County board. My cat has particular "special" issues (don't they all?), and they have always treated her with care and respect at TCAH.

+1 for Tega Cay Animal Hospital! Dr. Willoughby is the best!

Only minutes from Steele Creek, take NC 160 to SC 160 to Gold Hill Road, right on Gold Hill Road, about a mile up on the right before you get into the Tega Cay city limits.

Ex-LI - I am assuming this vet is in SC? If so, I have a couple of questions:

Does SC have the same mandatory requirement for rabies vaccinations that NC does? We took our one cat to a vet in the Steele Creek area after we moved down here when she was a little sick and we were forced to give her that shot in order to register her in NC. The other two are due for checkups and we do not like to give un-needed shots (our cats are strictly indoors).

Given that NC has the pet registration thingy - if you live in NC but go to a vet in SC, how does that registry get handled? Or do they just not worry about it?

IMO...rabies are important. I wouldn't risk that one. But the other shots you can do without. {I am not a vet, just a well researched pet owner.}

I'm pretty sure S carolina has the rabies law. Most states do. Honestly it is not an uneeded shot because a cat can get out or even a bat or other critter could get in your house that has rabies. It's strictly a safety precaution for you, your pets and your vet. Better safe then sorry. The reason we have less rabies outbreaks now is because of these laws. As you already know, I'm sure, NC vets won't even look at a cat or dog if you don't have a current rabies vac form. They always give them a rabies shot. They have no idea if your cat has access to being outside (only your word) and they won't personally take the risk. After all, if your cat does become ill you would take it back to see the vet and if it did have rabies--well you get the picture!

Tober138, yes Tega Cay Animal Hospital is in SC. He gives you the certificate and a shiny pendant for the rabies shot, same as in NC. When I lived in Charlotte, the certificate was fine for dog registration. I'm in Union County now, and the only time it gets checked is for grooming and boarding.
