The way I read it they have agreed not to annex around the townsships, if they are is away from the township it may be annexed, latyer today I will try and find the article that mentions Somerset, it would appear to be the only area that could technically be annexed.

For as long as I have lived here I have never seen Charlotte annex outside of Mecklenburg county. Like the info you posted says, the cities and towns respect each others spheres of influence. Maybe Somerset is in a one of a kind situation?

There was an article about it, which I know I have read, yes it could be one of a kind, alas the article cannot be found on the observers web site.

If I can get the chance this afternoon I will log onto lexus/nexus and see if I can find it.

That would be great - my curiousity is really piqued!

what is interesting is that somerset and us are on border of Union, if you go out our development right after longview which is Union is Meck...so its almost like rectangle and we are in the middle of it...so it should be interesting as my development has 4 entrances but we are on the Tip of the border...I guess we will have to wait the 8 years and find out what they plan on doing..or what they can do..And we are Unincorporated Union....

Default questions, answers, questions!

I am going to take the liberty of e-mailing "KWEIR@CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.COM" from the Charlotte Observer, since he/she wrote the story. They might be the most informed out of all us!

Wish me Luck!

We are not incorporated. We live in Wesley Chapel and have a Matthews address...I still don't really understand it.

Several areas in Union county close to Charlotte get their mail out of the Matthews post office, so you get a Matthews MAILING address, but you still live in Union county and pay Union county taxes, not Charlotte taxes

The county (Union) would have to approve any type of annexing by Charlotte. (which would never happen) Also there are some state statues that are in place to prevent this type of thing from happening. If you are in Union County, even in unincorporated UC, you won't get annexed by Charlotte.
